Layers and Layers Control
AutoCAD contains three basic categories of layers, they are, the active layer, the inactive layers and the hidden layers. If a particular drawing was created using a layer that is not yet activated or visible, then that layer is considered to be an inactive or hidden layer. Similarly, if a layer is not visible on the drawing window, then it is considered to be an inactive or hidden layer.
To activate a layer, you simply click on it. To hide a layer, you can either deselect it or you can simply press the ESC key to hide the layer. Once a layer is activated, it can be turned on or off using the Layer Control menu or using the Layers Control.
What’s the Layers Control?
The Layers Control is used to activate or deactivate a specific layer. This is useful when you are working with multiple layers and you want to work on a specific layer.

When you are working with multiple layers, it is convenient to use the Layers Control. This feature can be accessed using the Window menu or by pressing the ESC key.

The Layers Control lets you switch between layers and can be used to activate or deactivate multiple layers.
Activating and deactivating a specific layer is very simple and requires no mouse clicks. To activate or deactivate a layer, you simply click on the Layers Control option.
To access the Layers Control, you simply press the ESC key. This allows you to quickly activate or deactivate the current layer or select the next layer.
You can access the Layer Control menu by using the Window menu. The following figure shows the Layer Control menu.

Visual LISP (VLISP)
